The Atlanta Falcons’ Sunday Night Football matchup against the Baltimore Ravens has changed dramatically.
Baltimore has officially ruled quarterback Lamar Jackson out of its Week 5 game in Atlanta because of a right ankle sprain. Backup quarterback Tyler “Snoop” Huntley will start at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
Jackson sustained the injury during Baltimore’s Week 4 victory over the Tennessee Titans. The two-time NFL MVP missed practice Wednesday, Thursday and Friday before receiving his final designation.
What Jackson’s absence means for Baltimore
No player defines the Ravens’ offense more than Jackson. His arm strength, improvisation and game-changing speed force defenses to account for every part of the field.
Huntley offers mobility and experience, but replacing Jackson is an enormous assignment. Baltimore will likely lean more heavily on its running game, shorter passes and designed quarterback movement to keep Atlanta’s defense off balance.
The Ravens have not announced whether Jackson could return for Week 6 against Cleveland.
A major opportunity for the Falcons
Atlanta enters Sunday night with growing confidence after consecutive victories, including a dominant 45–24 win over New Orleans.
Michael Penix Jr. has brought new energy to the offense, while Bijan Robinson and Atlanta’s rushing attack have become increasingly difficult to contain. Facing Huntley instead of Jackson gives the Falcons a significant advantage—but it does not guarantee victory.
Huntley understands Baltimore’s system and can still punish undisciplined defenses with his legs. Atlanta must contain the edges, control Derrick Henry and force Huntley to win from the pocket.
Fantasy-football impact
Jackson must be removed from all Week 5 fantasy lineups. Managers in deeper leagues or two-quarterback formats may consider Huntley as a replacement because of his rushing potential.
Baltimore’s receivers and tight ends also become riskier fantasy options without Jackson, while Atlanta’s defense becomes a more attractive streaming play at home.
The stakes under the Sunday-night lights
This is a tremendous opportunity for Atlanta to rise above .500 and strengthen its position in the NFC South. A nationally televised victory over Baltimore—even without Jackson—would reinforce the belief that the Falcons’ early-season turnaround is legitimate.
The storyline is now clear: Baltimore must survive without its franchise quarterback, while Atlanta must capitalize on the opening.
Can the Falcons turn Lamar Jackson’s absence into their biggest victory of the season?
