Three Sweeps, Three Statements: Yankees, White Sox and Padres Advance in MLB Playoffs

ScoreClub Sports  /  October 1, 2026

The 2026 MLB postseason wasted no time delivering emphatic statements.

The New York Yankees, Chicago White Sox and San Diego Padres completed commanding two-game Wild Card Series sweeps on September 30, eliminating three opponents and punching their tickets to the Division Series.

Different teams. Different paths. Same message: October baseball has officially arrived.

Yankees Crush Boston Without Aaron Judge

The Yankees defeated the Boston Red Sox 9–2, completing an 18–2 demolition across the two-game series.

New York broke Game 2 open with six runs in the sixth inning, proving its offense can overwhelm opponents even without injured captain Aaron Judge. The Yankees now advance to face the Tampa Bay Rays in the American League Division Series.

Boston entered the postseason hoping to revive baseball’s most famous rivalry. Instead, New York ended the series almost as quickly as it began.

The question now: If the Yankees are this dangerous without Judge, how much stronger could they become if their superstar returns?

White Sox End a 21-Year Postseason Drought

Chicago defeated the Houston Astros 7–3 to earn its first postseason-series victory since winning the 2005 World Series.

The White Sox seized control early and never allowed Houston to recover. After years of rebuilding and disappointment, Chicago has transformed itself into one of baseball’s most compelling comeback stories.

The reward is a Division Series meeting with the Cleveland Guardians—and a chance to prove this breakthrough is only the beginning.

This is no longer simply a feel-good turnaround. The White Sox have become a legitimate October threat.

Padres Pitching Silences the Cubs

San Diego completed its sweep with a 4–1 victory over Chicago, powered by Gavin Sheets’ decisive pinch-hit, two-run home run.

The Padres allowed just one run during the entire series, delivering the most dominant pitching performance of the Wild Card round. Their starters and bullpen consistently shut down the Cubs before San Diego’s offense supplied the crucial blows.

The Padres now advance to face the Milwaukee Brewers.

With elite pitching, timely power and growing confidence, San Diego looks built for the pressure of postseason baseball.

Three Teams Enter the Division Series With Momentum

The Yankees delivered offensive dominance. The White Sox completed a historic breakthrough. The Padres overwhelmed Chicago with pitching.

Each team now enters the Division Series undefeated this postseason—but the competition becomes significantly tougher from here.

New York must face Tampa Bay. Chicago draws Cleveland. San Diego meets Milwaukee. Every remaining opponent had time to rest, reset its rotation and study the Wild Card winners.

The sweeps created momentum. The next round will reveal whether that momentum can survive against baseball’s top seeds.

ScoreClub Sports Verdict

Three sweeps. Three statements. Three teams that just placed the rest of Major League Baseball on notice.

The Yankees proved they can dominate without their biggest star. The White Sox ended more than two decades of postseason frustration. The Padres showed that championship-level pitching can make any opponent look ordinary.

Now the real October test begins.

Which Wild Card winner has the best chance to reach the World Series: the Yankees, White Sox or Padres?
