Atlanta is dreaming bigger after a dominant first-round performance
The Atlanta Dream are moving on—and they are not advancing quietly.
Atlanta defeated the Washington Mystics 93–75 on September 30, completing a commanding 2–0 first-round sweep and securing a place in the 2026 WNBA semifinals.
The Dream won both games by double digits, defeating Washington 92–77 in Game 1 before delivering another decisive performance on the Mystics’ home court. Across the two victories, Atlanta displayed the balanced scoring, defensive pressure and composure required to make a deep postseason run.
Gray and Canada lead Atlanta’s attack
Allisha Gray set the tone in Game 2 with 22 points, four steals and three assists. Her two-way impact helped Atlanta take control and prevent Washington from finding the sustained momentum necessary to extend the series.
Jordin Canada delivered one of her strongest performances of the season, recording 19 points and 11 assists while connecting on four three-pointers. Her ability to create scoring opportunities for herself and her teammates gave Washington problems throughout the game.
Angel Reese added 15 points and seven rebounds, providing Atlanta with another physical presence inside. The Dream’s three leading performers combined for 56 points, demonstrating the balance that makes Atlanta such a dangerous postseason opponent.
Washington received 25 points and seven rebounds from Sonia Citron, while Kiki Iriafen contributed 15 points and 16 rebounds. Their production was not enough to overcome Atlanta’s depth and execution.
The Dream are building championship momentum
Sweeping a playoff series is about more than simply advancing. It allows a team to preserve energy, build confidence and avoid the pressure of an elimination game.
Atlanta accomplished all three.
The Dream controlled the opening round from beginning to end and established themselves as a legitimate championship threat. Their offense can attack from the perimeter, create in transition and generate production inside. Defensively, they have enough athleticism to disrupt opposing guards and challenge shots around the basket.
Atlanta will need every one of those strengths in the next round.
Next up: Atlanta Dream vs. New York Liberty
The No. 4 seed Dream will face the New York Liberty in the WNBA semifinals, with Game 1 scheduled for October 4.
New York represents a significant step up in competition, but Atlanta enters the matchup with momentum and growing belief. Gray’s scoring, Canada’s playmaking and Reese’s interior presence give the Dream multiple ways to attack the Liberty.
The semifinal series will determine whether Atlanta’s impressive season ends one round short—or becomes a historic run to the WNBA Finals.
Atlanta is no longer simply dreaming about a championship.
The Dream are coming for it.
